Single Mom Working and Struggling1

One of the most pressing concerns of a single parent, whether they be single moms or dads, is making ends meet. For those single moms and dads scraping and clawing week to week on a tight budget, this is no small feat!

Single Moms and the Budget

The responsibility to make out a budget for the family can sometimes cause us to worry over where we will get the money to pay the bills.

Recently, a single mom wrote the following to Christian Dating Service PLUS!:

“I am a single mom of a two year old child. I work a full time job and provide everything for my son. We have an order for child support payments but am not receiving the money from his father.

“As a single mom, I am currently paying for child care, medical expenses and all the expenses that come with raising a child. I have a mortgage and all the expenses of running a home. I do not qualify for help from the state because I work a full time job, even though I have no money left after I pay all my bills.

“Right now Congress (US) is working on legislation to change the Medicaid Laws. I have been working with NY State Senator Vincent Liebell’s office to try to get some help to ease the burden on working single parents. If you are in the same position as me and need help as well, please contact me at single.mommy@hotmail.com. I would like to hear from you so that we can finally get some positive changes!!!”

Boy, can you just feel the desperation in this poor single mom? If you are a struggling single parent reading this, you may be feeling just like this. It’s at times like these, that single moms and single dads need to remember the wonderful promises of our Saviour to meet our needs. In Psalm 37, King David wrote an encouraging song for His people to take heart during difficult testing. Here’s one of the promises he wrote:

Bible Verse of Day

-I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread- Psalm 37:25

Let’s claim God’s promises for His children today.

Are you a single Christian mom with a story to share about how God provided for you, or some other struggling single mom or dad?

Sex Sin in Christian Singles(share?)

Sex sin is a huge issue for christian singles. Why? The simple answer is that most singles struggle with some form of sex sin, or at least tempted in this particular area.

What exactly is sexual sin? There are a number of words the Bible uses that would go under the umbrella of sexual sins:

  • Fornication-Any unlawful sexual intercourse outside of marriage.
  • Sexual Immorality-An other sexual activity outside of a God ordained union of man and wife, other than sexual intercourse, that would be considered defrauding your single brother or sister (1Thes. 4).

For example, oral sex outside of marriage would fall under this second category of sex sin. So, when a popular US president stated: “I did not have sex with that woman”, he was partially telling the truth in that he did not specifically commit fornication as biblically defined, but did partake in sexual immorality. Get it?

Phew! This is all a little confusing, and I’ll be the first to admit that there are a lot of gray areas. The point is though, I think most believers know when we are crossing a line into sex sin territory. If you’re one of the many single Christians struggling with sex sin, remember God’s wonderful provision of assistance:

Bible Verse of Day

“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. and God is faithful: He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so you can stand up under it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

What’s True Love Got To Do With It?(share?)

true love

Most human beings are looking for a true love that lasts forever. I know some uf us may not admit it, but deep down, that thirst for true love is there. Perhaps your search for a true love relationship is one of the reasons you’re visiting this site today.

True Love-What it’s Not

Unfortunately, in our quest to find it, many of us have been, like the 80’s love song says, looking for true love in all the wrong places. Along the way, we’ve found what true love is not:

  • True love is not premarital love
  • True love is not merely an emotion

True love is in fact an action (the Bible refers to it as a “walk”) that entails selflessly giving away our life to another, with no strings attached.

Wow! That sounds like a tall order. But as Christian singles, if we’re truly looking for a true love dating relationship that culminates in a life-long commitment, we’lll want to get as close to the Bible’s definition of true love as possible.

Pastor Dave Gremban, of Calvary Chapel Ann Arbor in Michgan, USA, brings us a devotional about Jesus as our true love example as found in the Scripture.

Daily Devotional

In Ephesians 5:1-7, we learn what it means to walk in love. Our example is Christ who loved us and gave Himself for us (v. 2). Thus, to walk in love is to give as Christ gave. On the flip side, Paul describes the acts that characterize a person who is not walking in love: fornication (sexual immorality), uncleanness (”dirty” moral behavior), and covetousness (v. 3).

These are all “taking” terms as opposed to “giving” terms. For example, fornication takes something away from our future/current spouse and covetousness is a heart condition bent on taking.

In addition to unloving acts, Paul also describes the words of a person who is not walking in love: filthiness, foolish talking, and coarse jesting (v. 4). These types of words also “take” as opposed to “give” in that they rob God of glory. God wants us to speak words that give in various ways… words that give thanks to God (v. 4) and words that give love to people.

Thus, God desires that we walk in love — that we continually give to others as God fills us afresh with His Spirit. God wants to use us to love a world that so desperately needs to experience His love. Let’s be open to being used in this way!

Bible Verse of Day

-Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God- -Ephesians 5:1,2-
