In days past it was not uncommon for long distance lovers to keep the flames of their romance alive by writing great love poems to each other via snail mail. With the advent of instant communication through telephone and e-mail, great love poem romances have become largely a thing of the past. How sad!
Great Love Poem Romance in History
Recently I was reading about the hot and passionate romance between President John Adams and his wife Abigail. Both dedicated Christians, John often had to leave Abigail hundreds of miles behind as he attended the young nation’s business. However, they kept their love and romance kickin’ by writing great love poems to each other.
The following is an excerpt from one of the many love letters Abigail wrote to the Prez:
My Dearest Friend,
…should I draw you the picture of my heart it would be what I hope you would still love though it contained nothing new. The early possession you obtained there, and the absolute power you have obtained over it, leaves not the smallest space unoccupied…

Extreme Makeovers for Singles

Well, in case you haven’t noticed, extreme makeovers are still all the rage these days. No less than a dozen reality t.v. shows are based on this principle of taking something ordinary, or maybe even hideous, and turning it into something magnificent and beautiful and stunning.
Why are these shows so popular? Because over 80% of singles secretly wish that they could have a makeover on at least one part of their body. And The Extreme Makeover show was just one of those programs where you could see tummy tucks, face lifts, liposuction, collagen treatments, hair replacement therapy and nose jobs. Phew!
The Author of Extreme Makeovers
If you’re a feeling just a little bit discouraged and physcially undesireable today, please remember that God does not make mistakes, and He knew exactly what He was was doing when he made the one and only you. As the David says in Psalm 139, you were “fearfully and wonderfully made.” I guess when you get right down to it, the kind of extreme makeover we really need is not one of the body, but of the heart.
The good news here is that God is in the business of taking hopeless, ordinary sinners, and making them over into something beautiful and great in His kingdom. Now that’s what I call the ultimate extreme makeover.

Jerry Falwell-Rest in Peace

Jerry Falwell died today, and I was very saddened by the news. Oh, I know there are a number of people who couldn’t stand Jerry Falwell. While I may not of always agreed with his politics, I always respected his great vision in ministry, and great compassion (although you would never read it in the press) he showed others. Yeah, Jerry ’s one of the reasons I chose to attend Liberty Seminary, and I will definitely miss him.
The wonderful thing about all of this is that death is not the end for the believer in Christ. In fact, it’s only the beginning. Rest in peace Brother Jerry!
