Anxiety Attacks and Being Single

anxiety attacks and being single

Single people who suffer from anxiety attacks know how much it can affect their dating relationships and self-esteem. I should know because I used to suffer anxiety attacks for years myself.

I remember one night being at the movies with my new date, when a terrible anxiety attack came over me. I started sweating, and my heart felt like it was jumping out of my chest.

Because I was too embarrassed to let my date know what was going on, I suffered silently all by myself, feeling like such a loser. Does any of this sound familiar?

Dealing with Anxiety Attacks

Single Christians who have anxiety disorders/attacks often feel fearful about sharing their problem with others, which only makes this kind of phobia worse. Some questions that actually went through my mind were:

  • Will I ever be able get another a date since I suffer from panic/anxiety attacks?
  • If I do get a date, do I tell my dating partner that I struggle with anxiety attacks?
  • When do I tell them about my anxiety attacks, and how?
  • If I do share about my anxiety attacks, will I lose my girlfriend?
  • Am I crazy and/or lacking in faith because I get anxiety attacks?
  • Why does God allow my anxiety attacks to occur?

Dear friend, if you are one of those folks who suffer from anxiety attacks, please know that there is hope. The Lord promises in our Scripture of the day-

“I Will Never Leave You Nor Forsake You.” Hebrews 13:5.

When you suffer an anxiety attack, you can go to the Lord, and get comfort. Your Saviour feels your pain, and will work with you to heal your anxiety attacks. Sure, He could heal you immediately, but He may want to increase your faith and strength as He walks you hand in hand through this. Okay?

Quote of the Day:

“When we reach the end of our strength, wisdom, and personal resources, we enter into the beginning of His glorious provisions.”

  1. […] Does money saving concerns of single people shock you? It shouldn’t because financial debt and being single goes hand in hand. Singles of all types (never married, divorced, widowed or single parents) collectively have accumulated more bills than their married counterparts. Why? It’s not easy staying out of financial debt when you have to provide everything for yourself.  Just ask any Christian single parent you know, and they’ll tell you all about it. In fact, besides Christian singles dating issues, money saving worries top the list of anxieties for all singles, whether they be Christian or non-Christian. […]

  3. About a year ago I suffered from frequent panic attacks…It was awful – I didn’t know what to do.
My family, friends and god helped me through this situation.
I informed myself alot about panic attacks and what you can do about them. Fortunately I have found my inner peace now.
I hope that will work out for you too Elizabeth,…stay strong!

  4. I suffer from a very weird form of anxiety…I get very nausiated and I feel it’s ruining relationships I have with friends, and a very close friend of mine, I’ve tried many solutions, but nothing seems to work. I also feel horrible dealing with this and wish it were gone. But the Lord allows everything to happen for a reason, and although it’s hard to always think that, it’s the best thing to keep in mind. I understand what you’re going through Elizabeth, and I just want to say there is hope in God! He has a master plan for us!

  6. I know what you guys are going through. I got my first panic attack while I was hanging out with my friends 3 years ago. Since then I locked myself in the house in fear of getting another one. I had to finish my schooling at home and I haven’t worked since. At that time I didn’t pray much but I did believe in God. The only place I felt safe was at home. Until..several months ago I got my first panic attack at home. After that, I experienced it a few more times. About once every week. The place that I felt so safe became unsafe for me. But for me, when i get my panic attacks it was so severe to the point where I would completely shut down. My vision would go blurry, Short of breath, I’d get hot flashes, I couldn’t talk n’or move and I’d vomit cause I was so nervous. I didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin. Sometimes it would last a whole day like that. When it happened the 3rd time, I couldnt handle it anymore, I hit rock bottom. I ended up in the hospital. I wanted to end my life because I felt like if I were to live my life like that then life was simply not worth living. After that anxiety episode, I started praying everyday and going to church every Sunday. I wanted to get close to God cause I knew that the only way I can get liberated through this disorder was through God. Ever since then, I’m back to normal at home. I don’t get nervous about getting another episode at home since my faith has become so strong. I’m still fighting myself about going out with friends but I know God will walk with me through it all the way. We WILL overcome this, it’s just a matter of time. But never lose hope. Always Trust in God.
