Romance Relationship Hope for Christian Singles

romance relationships

Spending New Years Eve minus a romance relationship usually spells loneliness and depression. I know many Christian singles reading this watched the Ball drop last night without a romance relationship in sight. Sigh. Under these circumstances it’s very easy to lull ourselves into a self-pity party, especially as we observe other couples enjoying their romance relationships.

Romance Relationship Hope for the Future

Last night as I watched the record crowd during the Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration, it dawned on me that many of the celebrants in romance relationships probably didn’t know Jesus as Lord and Saviour. The I sadly Thought, “what lasting hope for the future do they really have?” Yet, they sure seemed happy as they whooped it up.

Saint Paul tells us a wonderful thing about having Jesus in our lives: we are not like the world, who have no hope for the future. No, as Christians, we have a glorious future hope in Him!

So how does romantic relationships fit in all of this? Only in this way: The same God who has given you hope for eternity has also promised to meet our needs in this life as well.

My advice as you seek a romance relationship in 2007?

  • Pray to God, expecting miraculous results in the area of romance relationships.
  • Take faith filled risks as you do your part to fulfill your end of the bargain. This may mean joining a new Church singles group, or signing up at a Christian dating service
  • Consider 2007 a new chance to claim anew His promises found in His Word.

Bible Verse of Day

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.Jeremiah 29:11

Disability Dating and Singles Dating with Disabilities

Have you heard about those disability dating sites that exist to help disabled singles the chance to meet other singles with similar issues?

Some people use disability dating sites because they feel it is harder for them to find a date on a regular dating site. I know of several Christian singles who have physical disabilities, and they with disability dating services. The main reason they use online disability dating is because they feel “normal” singles in the church and those on mainstream matchmaking websites look down on them once they discover they have a disability.

What are your thoughts about disability dating? Personally, something deep in my soul is repulsed by the idea of disability dating. Oh, it has nothing to do with the dear folks who use them. I feel sad that we as human beings categorize some folks as disabled and others as not. After all, aren’t we ALL a little disabled in different ways due to the Fall?

Bible Verse of Day

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God [sees] not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
1Samuel 16:7

How then should we treat and judge each other, and how should this verse effect our dating selections? Wow…that’s a tough one.

Love Tests-The Ultimate Love Test

love test

Are you familiar with love tests? You can see love tests on many dating sites and in romance/dating magazines. What exactly is a love test? A love test is basically a quiz, a set of questions that supposedly will determine whether or not the girl or guy you are dating really loves you, or is just faking it.

In my opinion, most of these love tests are inaccurate, and should be taken sort of like the “he loves me, he loves me not” games we used to play when we were kids. (Just thought I’d share that the petals on my flower always seemed run out on she loves me not)

A True Love Test

A real love test will take into account the actions of a person, and not just his or her’s words. How often have we heard those wonderful words “I love you”, only to realize later that the person saying them was manipulative and insincere. Mere words ring hollow, but actions speak volumes.

In this regard of connecting our words with our actions, the Bible speaks an awful lot about the meaning of love, and always connects true love with sacrificial giving of one’s self and goods.

Bible Verse of the Day

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:16-18

As a single Christian, how do your actions in the relationships add up against the “ultimate love test” found this verse. Are you all talk and no action? Do your words ring true, or are you just blowing hot air?
