Loving Others as Single Christians
In the book, The Jesus Creed: Loving God, Loving Others, Scot McKnight says it all. And it’s so simple. As Christian singles, Jesus wants us to connect with Him and others by loving them with our actions. When we learn to love others from our hearts, God blesses us in several ways.
In 1 John 4:12-21, we learn that we can have a personal assurance in regard to our faith. As we walk in love, abiding in Him, the Holy Spirit assures us that we belong to God (v. 12-13, 16). In other words, Christ-like love that grows in our hearts serves as proof that God has indeed given us life and that we belong to Him. This assurance is only available to those who confess Jesus as the Son of God (v. 14-15). With this kind of assurance, we need not fear judgment (v. 17-18) because we know that God in His love has poured out His judgment upon His Son Jesus on our behalf.
Thus we are free to walk with Him and to continually demonstrate our love for Him by loving others (v. 19-21). Let’s walk with solid assurance as we grow in our love for God and as we express our love for Him by loving and serving others!
