Money Worries for Christian Singles

Single Christians didn’t need the September 2008 economic meltdown on Wall Street to start worrying about money and finances. In fact, according to our 2007 extensive surveys, singles worry just as much about money and careers as they do relationship and dating issues. Did you know that?  So how do we counsel singles (single-never married, single parents, divorcees) who worry over money?

The actual meaning of the word “worry in Greek actually means to have a “divided mind”. The gist of the meaning here is that a worrier has conflicting and racing thoughts over the topic at hand that simply chokes out any other constructive thoughts. Ever been in that situation before? Well I have.

Many people wonder whether it is a sin to worry. Since Jesus commands us in Matthew 6 not to worry I think we have our answer. However, like anything else in life, balance is often the key to dealing successfully with an issue. Jesus gives some great advice on how to combat worry:

1. Keep your eyes on the Provider not the Problem.
2. Live in the Present

Whether you’re a  Christian single who worries about dating, marriage or money, if you put these points into practice, you will experience more joy in your life and less worry.
