Single Mom Working and Struggling

One of the most pressing concerns of a single parent, whether they be single moms or dads, is making ends meet. For those single moms and dads scraping and clawing week to week on a tight budget, this is no small feat!

Single Moms and the Budget

The responsibility to make out a budget for the family can sometimes cause us to worry over where we will get the money to pay the bills.

Recently, a single mom wrote the following to Christian Dating Service PLUS!:

“I am a single mom of a two year old child. I work a full time job and provide everything for my son. We have an order for child support payments but am not receiving the money from his father.

“As a single mom, I am currently paying for child care, medical expenses and all the expenses that come with raising a child. I have a mortgage and all the expenses of running a home. I do not qualify for help from the state because I work a full time job, even though I have no money left after I pay all my bills.

“Right now Congress (US) is working on legislation to change the Medicaid Laws. I have been working with NY State Senator Vincent Liebell’s office to try to get some help to ease the burden on working single parents. If you are in the same position as me and need help as well, please contact me at single.mommy@hotmail.com. I would like to hear from you so that we can finally get some positive changes!!!”

Boy, can you just feel the desperation in this poor single mom? If you are a struggling single parent reading this, you may be feeling just like this. It’s at times like these, that single moms and single dads need to remember the wonderful promises of our Saviour to meet our needs. In Psalm 37, King David wrote an encouraging song for His people to take heart during difficult testing. Here’s one of the promises he wrote:

Bible Verse of Day

-I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread- Psalm 37:25

Let’s claim God’s promises for His children today.

Are you a single Christian mom with a story to share about how God provided for you, or some other struggling single mom or dad?

I’m going to be a single mom. I moved from California to Georgia. I have a friend who has taken us in me and my two boys but I’m broke. I got food stamps and medicaid for the boys. I’m looking for work, my car insurance lapsed, I’m about to loose my storage with all our worldly possessions and now I have to fly to California to go to court. I borrowed money to get an attorney so I wouldn’t have to fly but again I go further go further debt. I still don have a support order and it has been 6 months since he walked out on us. I couldn’t get cash aide because I own a car. If I sold the car I would qualify for cas in 3 months. That is so messed up. I need a car to get my kids to school and to look for work. How come the women’s income goes down 45% and the males goes up. It’s just not fair to single moms or the children involved.

I am a 24 year old single mother of two little boys, 5 & 2. I just wanted to say that holidays are always hard on single parents. I thank God every day that my children have a meal. We are not materialistic and don’t need fancy things. But sometimes, when buying necessities I want to scream! I should NOT feel guilty because my bills are over due and I want to buy my son a pack of new socks. I should NOT feel guilty that I want help in raising my sons and their father can just walk away from the situation.

In the end, I am all my children have and they are all I have. As long as they have food in their stomachs, I am happy.

Now when I tell them Christmas isn’t coming around this year, that’s another story.

Women KEEP YOUR HEAD UP. This world is just a test. Better things will come if you just BELIEVE.
