Iraq, Singles and Dating(share?)

They’re fighting a war in Iraq, and most of the soldiers are single guys and single gals. Did you ever think about that? In fact, it’s not just in Iraq: All countries of the world employ their young single adults to fight their battles. What a waste!

The sad thing is, some of these “Iraqi war singles” will NEVER come home from Iraq, let alone enjoy a long lasting dating relationship or marriage. While most singles are planning and praying about how to meet a dating match, these Iraq singles are hoping to just stay alive for another day. Talk about perspective. According to a recent Associated Baptist Press article, many soldiers in Iraq are reading the Bible to gain strength and hope.

The Iraq War Gives Perspective

I believe the Lord allows certain hard circumstances in our lives in order to bring us back to what’s really important in life. Ok, maybe you’re not in a real war like the “Iraq war singles”, but there may be other issues in your life, like a broken heart from a sour dating relationship, sickness or job loss that serves the same purpose.

I suppose learning how to find contentment in all of life’s wild turns is key to abundant living in this life. So, how are you doing in this area? Don’t be discouraged if you’re not feeling victorious. There’s a learning curve even for the most famous single Christian of all time:

Bible Verse of Day

“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” Phillipians 4:11

In the meantime, let’s take our minds off our own needs and pray for Iraq, and that justice be done there. Pray for all the singles that are living, fighting and dying there. Pray for their contentment and salvation. Finally, let’s all pray that they may return home soon. Amen.

Forgiveness and Dating Relationships(share your view?)

Forgiveness

There is an amazing connection between forgiveness and healing in the Bible. Forgiveness has amazing benefits. Forgiveness can heal broken relationships, broken hearts and even bring health to one’s body. Only recently have secular psychologists and doctors begun speaking of the healing power of forgiveness in one’s life.

The Forgiveness Problem

Many Christian singles have problems with their health and the relationships in their lives because they have a major issue with forgiveness. For example, some singles have had such sour dating relationships with cheaters and patholigical liars that they now find it hard to grant forgiveness. Others walk around gloomy and depressed because they they can’t forgive themselves for past sex sins that God has long forgiven.

Are you a single Christian today in need of forgiveness for how you treated someone in the past? Remember Jesus suffered for all your wrongdoing. If He says he has forgiven you (1 John 1:9), in faith you need to forgive yourself. Is there someone seeking your forgiveness, but you just can’t open up to that person? Jesus says forgive, and you shall be forgiven. (Luke 6:37).

I really hope you don’t think I’m preaching to you. Why? Because lately a whole bunch of people have been ticking off to the point where I have had a difficult time forgiving them. So I’ll make a deal with you. You pray for me and I’ll pray for you, okay?

Bible Verse of the Day

“Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians 3:13

Feel free to share your views on relationships and forgiveness.

Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Give Me 2 Million0

Make me a match. Find me a find. Catch me a catch. Anne Majerik just caught a cool two million, so I guess she found her match.  This week a California jury awarded the 60 year old social worker from Erie, PA  2.1 million dollars after she sued a Beverly Hills Matchmaker Service for failing to make her a match with an eligible millionaire.

Orly Hadida, the owner of the matchmaker service, charged Majerik over $125,000  (yes, eHarmony.com doesn’t seem so expensive now!) with the promise  that she would meet millionaire bachelors for dating relationships.  When the promise came up empty (the poor lady only met a humble banker), Majerik sued the dating service for damages.

What’s your take on this matchmaker brouhaha?  For me, this whole case makes me want to vomit.  I don’t know what’s worse, the materialism and greed of this social worker (that’s funny), or the elitist attitude of the Ms. Hadida’s matchmaker service.  Anyway, it’s interesting that many in the jury thought both of these women despicable, and wanted each side to lose by having the judge order the defendant pay out 20 million dollars to a charity, not to Majerik. When the judge told the jury he could not do that, they grudgingly settled on the present figure.

What Are You Looking For in a Match?

So what about you?  If you are one the many Christain singles out there waiting on God for that perfect match, just what are you looking to find? Does he or she have to be filthy rich? Do they have to look like a “10″, or can they be average in appearance?  Do they have to drive an expensive car?

Overall, there is nothing sinful about wishing for that special soulmate, using a matchmaker service or one of the online dating services. However, before doing so we should examine our hearts motives viz-a-viz God’s word. I also will never forget my dad’s words: “What you want may not be what you need, or even what is good for you. But you can never go wrong if you give Jesus first place in your life because all these great things will be added unto you as well.”  Amen.
