Singleness as an Opportunity

March 6, 2008

The following article on Christian singleness was written by Dan Knowles, one of our many readers from the UK. If you have any comments on singleness as it relates to being a Christian single, Dan would love to hear from you. Thanks brother!

I’ve recently realised why singleness can get us so down, and it’s pretty much to do with how the devil gives us false notions. We live in a world obsessed about sex and relationships and there’s so much pressure to find someone to share life with more intimately. I fear as Christians we have also taken on this worldly view, that we need someone to complete us, make us whole, fill in the blanks. This, for the world, is spot on. There’s a big God-shaped hole they are trying to fill with drugs, alcohol, relationships, you name it. But for us as Christians, we should be able to see we’re already complete, we needn’t be going through life focusing on when our perfect partner is going to show up. We already have all we need in God, although the devil makes it extremely hard to realise it.

Bible Verse of Day

~I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs–how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world–how he can please his wife– and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world–how she can please her husband. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord~1 Corinthians 7:32-35

We’re never going to know God fully because He’s infinite. However, WE can grow in knowing Him. This blows my mind!! What an awesome opportunity we have when we’re single to focus completely and willingly on God. Such an opportunity won’t come once we’re in a Christian dating relationship so make the most of it while you can. Hope this post helped :)

Online Dating Statistics

February 29, 2008

I am interested in online dating statistics because our site ministers to singles of all kinds. For whatever it’s worth here are some online dating statistics I hope you find encouraging and interesting:

Online Dating Statistics Facts

  • A useful online dating statistic that is useful for online dating Christians is that over 40 million singles use online Christian dating services. According to Jupiter Research and our own surveys the top online dating sites Christians use are:

Christian Mingle
eHarmony
Christian Cafe

  • According to US Census projections there will over 110 million single adults by 2010. I know some single Christians fear remaining alone but I think that’s an online dating statistic to feel encouraged over because among those we know there are plenty of Christian singles among these.
  • Think you’re missing out by not cruising the club scene. Think again. Less than 5% of men and women say they ever meet anyone they would consider dating in these joints. Of course, we already knew where Christian singles meet others.

God and Online Dating Stats

While all of these online dating statistics may be fun or depressing to read, the real truth is that with God numbers don’t matter. All throughout the Scriptures we see men and woman of God overcoming huge odds to the goal they were seeking.

Bible Verse of Day

~What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?~Romans 8:31

Online Dating Site Not for Average Singles

March 23, 2007

If you’re average looking, Hotenough.org, a new online dating site, doesn’t want you. Talk about online dating site shallowness. But it’s true. This new online dating site is only for the physically beautiful.

Here’s how you can become a member: You take three online dating pictures of yourself, including a full body shot. Then the online dating site administrators evaluate your worthiness, and if they feel you have what it takes, you’re in. If not, well, there’s always eHarmony or the nearest rejection hotline. Since only 10% of the singles who apply actually make the cut, applying to this online dating site is not the greatest way to gain self confidence in dating.

So what do you, as a Christian single, think about all this? All I can say is thank God Jesus doesn’t judge us soley according to our physical appearance. And think about this: When God’s Son invaded humankind he could have come down as the hottest guy the earth had ever seen. Instead he chose something closer to the opposite end of the spectrum.

Bible Verse of Day

-There was nothing attractive about him, nothing to cause us to take a second look. He was looked down on and passed over-Isaiah 53:2
