Self Control and the Single Christian Life(share?)

self control

Many single Christians lack self control in their sex lives. Not a few have written us asking for help with their lack of self control in this area, and how to deal with the guilt over it. The top culprits of habitual masturbation, porn addiction and sex before marriage have disrupted their fellowship with the Lord.

Self Control and Singles in the Bible

It’s amazing how much God speaks about self control in the Bible, In fact, the Apostle Paul had quite a bit to say about self control for single Christians, as he often connected it with their sex lives.

For example, in 1 Corinthians 7:8 he writes: “To the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to remain unmarried, as I am. But if they cannot control themselves they should marry, for it is better to marry than burn with lust.

Okay. most of us do not have the gift of singleness, as Paul evidently did. The issue then, for us, is how we can live with self control until God blesses us with that special perfect match of a lifetime. For Jesus’ glory, are you willing to even try?

Are you a Christian single with something to share about self control?

Bible Verse of Day

-It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him-1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

Meet Attractive Christian Singles(share?)

meet attractive Christian single

Want to meet attractive Christian singles? It seems just about every single Christian I know is in the market to meet attractive single Christians in hopes of meeting a mate. Reacting to this demand, many Christian dating services advertise how one can meet attractive single Christians on their sites.

What’s Wrong With Trying to Meet Attractive Single Christians?

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with hoping to meet attractive Christian singles. But I guess what bothers me is it seems Christians have accepted the world’s definition of what it means to be “attractive”. Nine out of ten times attractive by this standard entails putting much more emphasis on outward appearance, rather than on what’s inside of a person. Of course, God’s advice to those seeking to meet an attractive Christian single would be the exact opposite.

The story in 1 Samuel is that Samuel the prophet was looking to annoint a new king for Israel, and thought God’s choice for His people should be the most handsome and powerful looking dude out there. Of course, the Lord had other plans when he chose David.

Bible Verse of Day

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” - 1 Samuel 16:7-

Hey, ya know what? I’m just as clueless as Samuel was, because I still struggle with judging people by their outward appearance. So how about you? In your quest toward meeting an attractive Christian single, are you taking the world’s view of attractive over the Lord’s? Are you open to His leading you in the area of choosing a mate?

Do you have something to share about how to meet single Christians who are attractive?
