How To Tell if it is True Love

July 4, 2008

Are you in a serious dating relationship and are wondering if the feeling that you are feeling is true love? Well lucky for us, the definition of love is in the bible right in1 Corinthians. If the “love” that you are feeling doesn’t meet all the qualifications, then it is not true love.

Sometimes it is easy to confuse true love with other things. Some people think that love is that “fuzzy feeling” that you feel when you are around that special someone. However this feeling doesn’t last forever, and it easily goes away when you get angry or when you are tired. Since the bible says that love will never fail, these temporary feelings cannot be confused with true love.

You will know that what you are feeling is the real thing when it agrees with everything in 1 Corinthians. True love lasts forever.

Bible Verse of Day

~Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres~1 Corinthians 13:4-7

What’s True Love Got To Do With It?

January 22, 2007

true love

Most human beings are looking for a true love that lasts forever. I know some uf us may not admit it, but deep down, that thirst for true love is there. Perhaps your search for a true love relationship is one of the reasons you’re visiting this site today.

True Love-What it’s Not

Unfortunately, in our quest to find it, many of us have been, like the 80’s love song says, looking for true love in all the wrong places. Along the way, we’ve found what true love is not:

  • True love is not premarital love
  • True love is not merely an emotion

True love is in fact an action (the Bible refers to it as a “walk”) that entails selflessly giving away our life to another, with no strings attached.

Wow! That sounds like a tall order. But as Christian singles, if we’re truly looking for a true love dating relationship that culminates in a life-long commitment, we’lll want to get as close to the Bible’s definition of true love as possible.

Pastor Dave Gremban, of Calvary Chapel Ann Arbor in Michgan, USA, brings us a devotional about Jesus as our true love example as found in the Scripture.

Daily Devotional

In Ephesians 5:1-7, we learn what it means to walk in love. Our example is Christ who loved us and gave Himself for us (v. 2). Thus, to walk in love is to give as Christ gave. On the flip side, Paul describes the acts that characterize a person who is not walking in love: fornication (sexual immorality), uncleanness (”dirty” moral behavior), and covetousness (v. 3).

These are all “taking” terms as opposed to “giving” terms. For example, fornication takes something away from our future/current spouse and covetousness is a heart condition bent on taking.

In addition to unloving acts, Paul also describes the words of a person who is not walking in love: filthiness, foolish talking, and coarse jesting (v. 4). These types of words also “take” as opposed to “give” in that they rob God of glory. God wants us to speak words that give in various ways… words that give thanks to God (v. 4) and words that give love to people.

Thus, God desires that we walk in love — that we continually give to others as God fills us afresh with His Spirit. God wants to use us to love a world that so desperately needs to experience His love. Let’s be open to being used in this way!

Bible Verse of Day

-Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God- -Ephesians 5:1,2-
