Homosexuality, the Bible and Singles(share views?)
Let’s talk about something non-controversial: Homosexuality and the Bible. Actually, put ten random singles in a room to discuss homosexuality and the Bible, or what the Bible teaches about homosexuality, and you will get a garden variety of answers at odds with each other.
As a Christian singles living in a secular world, we are constantly bombarded with unbiblical views about homosexuality and almost any other hot topic mentioned in the Bible. I find it ironic that the secular press seems to write more about homosexuality and the Bible than Christians. Yet, the subject of homosexuality and the Bible affects many single Christians reading this article.
Some of us, like myself have relatives, friends and co-workers who are gay or lesbians. I’m thinking right now of one particular friend who is in a Christian dating relationship with a girl right now, but is struggling with homosexuality. I know there will be some Christians reading this article who are struggling in this area, and do not know where to turn. Other singles have just found out that the person they are dating is a homosexual. Talk about surprises!
In light of what is going on in our society, you would do well asking yourself the following questions:
- Are you theologically at peace about homosexuality and what the Bible teaches about homosexuals?
- How would you answer an unbelieving world about homosexuality and the Bible?
- Do you know how you would minister to a homosexual? Would you be protesting homosexuality by marching with a sign filled with Bible verses and slurs? Would you accept his or her lifestyle?
- Where is the heart of Jesus and the Bible on homosexuality and the one who practices homosexual behaviour?
Recently, I found one of the most balanced messages on homosexuality and the Bible I have ever heard. In our Christian podcast of the week Pastor Steve Nicholson of Vineyard Church in Indianapolis, Indiana (IN) brings the following message: ” A Christian’s Response to Homosexuality.” As you listen to this message on homosexuality and the Bible, pray and ask the Lord to lead you as you minister to other singles.
