Online Dating Services for Single Christians(share!)

Many single Christians interested in using online dating services are confused not only by the sheer number of choices, but also with what makes a good online dating service.

Several days back we wrote an article on how online dating services like eHarmony and PerfectMatch differ from most other online dating services out there. We mentioned that the major difference between these online dating services and all the others is that they do all searching and matching for members.

For those single women and men who want total control over the search and matching process for a date or a mate, there are the more traditional online dating services. Modeled after Match.com, the granddaddy of all internet services. Members of these types of online dating services search for their own dates, and contact those they find compatible.

What makes these kinds of online dating sites so successful is their huge search databases that allow singles to search by a number of variables (age, religion, location, occupation, interests, etc.) for the kind of person they are hoping to meet. While very few online dating services Christians use are exclusively “Christian”, this kind of format allows one to meet and date only those of like-minded faith.

The largest of these kinds of online dating service that Christians use in the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, South America and Asia include the following:

eHarmony.com Style of Online Dating(share?)

If you had a chance to review eHarmony.com, you would have found that they depart from the traditional dating sites’ way of helping singles meet their match.

Since some singles didn’t like (and some still don’t like) the idea of having to search the internet for a soulmate on their own, in 2000 eHarmony.com became the first to develop a matching system that basically does all the searching for its members. The eHarmony.com process is as follows:

  1. Christian Singles (or any other single) can sign up for an eHarmony.com Free Personality Profile
  2. eHarmony.com then contacts those people with compatible matches from other singles who have also taken the questionnaire.
  3. Finally, eHarmony.com software allows those singles to communicate with each other anonymously until they feel comfortable.

eHarmony is one of the largest matchmaking sites of its kind. They claim that on average, over 90 couples get married everyday due to the fact that they first met on eHarmony.

eHarmony.com Top Competitor

Observing the success of eHarmony.com, several other dating services have imitated their methods. However, the top competitor of eHarmony.com is PerfectMatch.com, which also offers its own free Personality Profile, which is very similar to eHarmony’s.

Each of these dating services has millions of members, due largely to the fact they both spend tens of millions of dollars on media advertising each year. I suppose this is a good thing for us consumers because that means there will be more singles in the system.

PerfectMatch bills itself as “a community of singles who are serious about finding love and a lasting relationship.” What’s a little funny is that in their radio and TV ads, they’ve even adopted the song (This Will Be, by Natalie Cole) eHarmony.com uses in their ads. Talk about copycats!

Overall, while most Christians interested in this kind of online dating service gravitate toward eHarmony.com, not a few use PerfectMatch as well. The latter is also considerably less expensive, which doesn’t hurt its cause.

Since both of these offer free membership trials, our recommendation here is to try out both to see which one feels more comfortable for you.

Finally, if you are a Christian single who has tried either PerfectMatch.com or eHarmony, please help other singles by chiming in with your thoughts.

Perfectmatch.com and Superman Returns(share?)

perfectmatch.com and superman returns

Superman Returns flew into theatres on 6/28/06, and so did Perfectmatch.com, the online dating service. By integrating itself with the 2006 Summer movie blockbusters, Superman Returns, starring Kevin Spacey and Kate Bosworth, and The Break-Up, with Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, Perfectmatch.com will definitely earn further name recognition among the masses.

As we have seen in the past, Perfectmatch.com, which has over three million members worldwide, has a penchant (and a 10 million dollar yearly advertising budget) for teaming up with Hollywood to get the word out about it’s dating service. In addition to being mentioned in films like Must Love Dogs and Failure to Launch, Perfectmatch also recently signed a deal with the Lifetime cable network to appear in Lovespring International, a 13 week comedy series about a dysfunctional dating service. And no, Perfectmatch.com is not the dysfunctional service.

We found Perfectmatch.com an interesting dating service with a decent database and great search options. If you have used Perfectmatch.com, help other single Christians by sharing your thoughts.
