I know some may think them corny, but there were some great 80’s love songs from all different kinds of genres. Since I love all kinds of love songs (from R&B to Blues, Rock, Metal and Country), I am in the process of listing my personal top 80’s love songs. Why 80’s love songs you may ask? Well, I guess I’m dating myself a little bit!
80’s Love Songs with a Positive Message
Listen, in the spirit of Romans 14 (see below), I appreciate and respect that out of the tens of thousands of Christian singles that visit us each month, some may not listen to secular music. That’s fine, but it’s just sad that some Churches will break fellowship with each other over such an issue.
As someone who has been a worship leader for 10 years, I feel music is neutral. What’s most important to me is the message behind the music, and that will determine whether or not I will waste my time listening to it. In choosing my top 80s love songs, here are my requirements:
- The 80’s love song should not espouse anything that is immoral or untrue. Yes, that would exclude an 80’s love song like the B52s’ Love Shack.
- The 80’s love song must have a positive message about love between a man and a woman. So all those “codependent 80’s love songs? You know the ones that make you feel all depressed and blue and empty? Well, we’ve just chucked them out.
Do you a favorite 80’s love song you would like to share? I just may add it to may upcoming list. For now, I’d like to share with you my top country 80’s love song. It’s by my man Randy Travis, and is called Forever and Ever, Amen. Hope you like this 80s love song as much as I do. 🙂
