Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban got married this past weekend, but I chose to go to a best friend’s wedding instead. Margaret met Tom, her husband, through one of the online Christian dating sites we list on this site, and had a two year long distance dating relationship before tying the knot. It was the most unlikely of circumstances that these Christian singles even crossed paths online, but our God has a way of doing things like that.
As I watched the emotional exchange of wedding vows a mere five feet away, I started playing flashbacks in my mind of several key events in Margaret’s life over the past decade.
I remembered the day she came into my office and told me that Jesus got a hold of her, and had forgiven her with his healing power. Having prayed for her salvation for many years, we both wept tears of joy on that precious day! The changes in her life that followed were profound and nothing short of miraculous. But our God has a way of doing things like that.
Several years later, as a Christian single woman in her late thirties, Margaret began to waiver in faith and wonder if she would ever meet the man of her dreams. So we prayed and wept before the Lord that she would find a single Christian guy that loved Jesus as much as she did.
Using an online Christian dating service was not Margaret’s idea of “trusting in the Lord” for a single man. For years she refused to even consider it. Only because several Christian friends bought her an eHarmony membership did she even agree to give it a try. Wouldn’t you know that an online Christian dating service was the exact tool the Lord chose to bring this wonderful couple together? Yes, but our God has a way of doing things like that.
My mind floated back to the wedding ceremony just as the pastor announced them man and wife. As they passionately kissed each other, my heart was overcome with a sense of God’s amazing love and faithfullness to His children.
Today as I write this, I know there are Christian singles out there waiting on God for that special soulmate. Many have let us know they are discouraged and worried that they may never get married. Hey, trusting the Lord during times when we see nothing tangible happening is always a tough thing.
But if you are in a similar position be encouraged by remembering that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and He promises to provide all of your needs according to His glorious riches (Phil 4:19). Afterall, your God has a way of doing things like that.
