Self Control and the Single Christian Life

Self Control and the Single Christian Life

Many single Christians lack self control in their sex lives. Not a few have written us asking for help with their lack of self control in this area, and how to deal with the guilt over it. The top culprits of habitual masturbation, porn addiction and sex before marriage have disrupted their fellowship with the Lord.

Self Control and Singles in the Bible

It’s amazing how much God speaks about self control in the Bible, In fact, the Apostle Paul had quite a bit to say about self control for single Christians, as he often connected it with their sex lives.

For example, in 1 Corinthians 7:8 he writes: “To the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to remain unmarried, as I am. But if they cannot control themselves they should marry, for it is better to marry than burn with lust.”

Okay. most of us do not have the gift of contentment in singleness, as Paul evidently did. The issue then, for us, is how we can live with self control until God blesses us with that special perfect match of a lifetime. For Jesus’ glory, are you willing to even try?

Are you a Christian single with something to share about self control?

Bible Verse of Day

-It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him-1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

Living a single Christian life without sex, masturbation, and porn is very do-able and easy. I am living proof of it.

Before I was a Christian, I was very much addicted to porn, masturbation, and sought after women as sex objects. After meeting the Lord, immediately in my heart I had intentions of not wanting to think about sex anymore. I said to myself, “I’m not even going to think about sex anymore.” Since the day I met Jesus, which was over 3 years ago, until now, I have not masturbated or even had the urge to do so. The same goes with watching porn and wanting to climb in bed with a gal. The desire is just not there. For me it’s very easy to not lust after women. I believe anyone can come to this point if their heart decides to.

Do I still like women and think they’re beautiful? Of course. I know which women are attractive. I still admire a pretty face. But I can’t see them sexually…unless she was my wife.

my struggle is not sex, but my temper…that is where I am trying to get fixed up.

wow. Ok here’s my story. I rededicated my life in 2009 and I knew I had to make some sacrifices for Jesus. I was single for three years but through those years I did not know Jesus nor had a relationship with him. I prayed for a perfect match “the One” for me. I prayed this for many months and was patient. I gave up having and kind sexual act with anyone after I rededicated my life to Jesus and at the same time, praying that God would bless me with “the One.” God answered my prayers. Praise the Lord. Amen. After meeting this perfect one, I relized that something was not going as smooth as I thought. I have not had intercourse with the woman God blessed me with but lust took over us and we have been messing around ever since we started dating. In present time, we are now praying that God will have mercy and grace on our foolsih acts, because I know and I believe she knows that we are ment to be. But, even though your not having intercourse with your partner. Messing around can still break that Love that God wants you to have between you and your partner.
