As a single christian waiting for God to bring your future spouse into your life, it can be easy to get distracted from what God is saying to you in the here and now by focusing on finding a relationship. This can lead to a self centered view of church. A “what can I get out of this” mentality can easily develop. Some single Christians even leave their church family to find a church with more single people! This mindset is unbiblical because God put you in a church family to serve as part of the body of Christ – not to be a parasite to the body! Church doesn’t exist for you to find a spouse. Satan uses the overwhelming desire for a relationship to grab your heart and mind away from the LORD and focus on yourself instead. This will only lead to depression and an unfulfilling experience because without trusting totally in God and seeking his will, you will never feel satisfied. Delight yourself in the Lord and seek his will, and he will take care of the rest.
That doesn’t mean that you should sop looking for a relationship however. Get to know singles at your church, and if there are no compatible singles at your church, you can make an online dating profile on an online dating site such as Christian Mingle or Eharmony Dating. As long as you don’t make finding a relationship your idol, there’s nothing wrong with seeking a dating partner!
