finding true loveLooking to find your love of a lifetime? You meet someone and may wonder: Is this the One? How quickly do you decide if this is the one? Imagine you are sitting in church and every Sunday he smiles at you. He never speaks, but he smiles every Sunday. Do you start imagining a two-car garage for matching mini-vans? Or the assistant manager at work keeps pausing at your desk to discuss the coffee flavors in the break room. Are you mentally picking flowers for your wedding bouquet as he speaks to you?

Why You Need to Find Your Love

It is a problem as old as time. Adam had Eve, and Abraham had Sarah. Most people want to have a partner and desire to be married. We can’t help but ask: Is this the one? The problem is if we are too quick to decide whether the people we meet are candidates to be the one, we will nullify any hope of making a sincere connection. We dismiss people who bring value to our lives by obsessively foreshadowing the outcome of our relationships. We may even eliminate viable mates prematurely. We do not add one day to our lives through worry. If fact we undermine God’s plan for us by worry. Waiting on God’s timing is hard:

…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31.  There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Ecclesiastes 3:1.

Trusting God’s timing is hard. We do not realize that we evolve over time. We grow through every experience in life, good and bad. Instead of asking: is this the one? Ask– am I the one? What have you done to become a good partner for someone? Feed your body. Choose healthy foods, limit alcohol consumption, and avoid illegal substances. Start by grooming yourself to present yourself as a clean and healthy person. Exercise at least three times a week and walk 30 minutes a day. Feed your mind. Read the bible each day so that you are armed for spiritual battle. Obtain education in a field of interest. Choose an occupation that is stimulating and rewarding since you will spend 1/3 of your life at work. Choose hobbies that interest you and join clubs that support your interest. Feed your spirit. Pray each day for God’s will to be done. Trust that when you have become a good partner that God will bring the partner into your life.  But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day2 Peter 3:8  He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11
