George Floyd, Riots and Christian Singles

So who is going to suffer the most from the integrated (white and black) mob of thugs and looters who are now burning down our cities? The very law abiding, poor, disenfranchised folks who need our help the most! And most of these people are singles of one form or another! As if the pandemic is not enough.

Single Protesters vs. Thugs

But it’s very important that we clearly distinguish between the peaceful protesters (mostly young singles) who are rightly outraged by the horrible injustice done against George Floyd (I count myself one of these), from those who are using this as an excuse to break the law or encourage anarchy to divide and destroy our country.

Don’t let your own bias and the media trick you: The vast majority of people on the streets (protesters and police alike) are decent folks who denounce destruction, racism and violence. The protesters are legitimately upset, and it’s their constitutional right to express that. It’s the responsibility of the police to protect our safety and property. Contrary to what you see on TV, I guarantee you the huge majority of folks who live in these areas are happy the police are there.

I just hope Church Leaders and our Politicians have the guts and fortitude to denounce in one breath the racism, police brutality and thuggery WHEREVER it rears its ugly head without worrying about other people’s perceptions or their popularity with their own base of supporters. So far I’m not impressed. This is the time for LEADERSHIP not WIMPS.

President Obama (at least in 2015) had guts, even if you didn’t agree with him politically. He said (after Baltimore) when protesters start picking up crowbars and burn..they are no longer protesters, but criminals and thugs…

Just let’s speak the truth in love…and pray for healing, which is only found in Jesus:

John 3:16 New International Version (NIV)

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

So what are your thoughts as a Christian single on this matter?
